Syosset Firefighters Extinguish School Bus Fire

The school bus was empty and no injuries were reported.

Syosset firefighters extinguished a large school bus fire outside of the Variety Learning Center at Humphrey Drive Wednesday evening at approximately 4 p.m.

No injuries were reported and the school bus was empty at the time of the fire, according to Syosset firefighters. 

Chief Robert Kaplan was first to arrive at the scene. Engine 584, the first to arrive, stretched a hose line from the front bumper and extinguished the fire with the assistance of the crews of Engines 583 and 585, as an ambulance stood by in case of injuries.

Syosset firefighters said Wednesday that they are unsure of the cause of the fire, but added that the fire marshals were not requested to respond for an investigation. Command of the incident was established by Chief Kaplan and taken over by Chief of Department John Capobianco, upon his arrival.
