Syosset Firefighters Respond to Another Roll-Over on LIE

Third overturned car in two days on Expressway; Cause appears to be high snow banks at entrance ramps.

The Syosset Fire Department was called to another overturned vehicle Friday afternoon, the third such in the same area of  the Long Island Expressway in two days.

A passenger in the car was transported to a local hospital.

The culprit in the roll-overs appears to be motorists striking high snow banks as they accelerate onto entrance ramps, firefighters said.

The latest crash occured shortly before noon on the eastbound side of the LIE just east of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.

Firefighters said the crashes appear to be the result of snow piled high along the entrance ramps. The snow piles obscure a motorist's vision as he enters the highway. Struggling to see, drivers have struck the high mounds of snow and flipped over.

So far, no major injuries have been reported. The victims have not been identified. Traffic was at a standstill as firefighters righted the flipped car and cleared it from the road surface.
