Syosset is Spared Wrath of Storm

There are only 10 reported power outages, compared to thousands in other areas.

Being in the middle of the island proved beneficial for Syosset last weekend, as the hamlet avoided the worst of a storm that pummeled much of LI.

While other communities dealt with thousands of power outages, as of Sunday morning the count in Syosset was only 71, according to LIPA. As of midday Monday that number was down to 10.

Syosset Fire Department Chief John Capobianco said volunteers responded to a few cases of downed trees and power lines, but that he knew of no major damage or injuries.

"It was really relatively quiet, what we had," Capobianco said.

Today's forecast from the National Weather Service is dreary, with drizzle and a northeast wind around 22 miles per hour. Syosset will finally see some gradual clearing on Tuesday.
