Syosset Man Arrested After Hit-and-Run on Jericho Turnpike

The man struck and seriously injured a 24-year-old female crossing Jericho Turnpike Wednesday afternoon, fled the scene but later returned and was arrested, according to police.

A Syosset man was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with serious physical injury after he struck a 24-year-old woman crossing Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, witnessed her get run over by another car, and fled the scene, according the police. 

Police said that Paul J. Reiners, 21, of Oregon Court, Syosset, was driving a 2002 Ford Mustang southbound on Woodbury Rd. when he accidently struck the woman crossing the street eastbound just north of Jericho Turnpike. 

The victim was then run over in the northbound lane by another vehicle and suffered serious head trauma, according the police. She was transported to a local hospital by a Nassau County ambulance, and her condition is currently unknown.

Reiners was placed under arrest at 7:30 p.m. after returning to the scene. He is schedule to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
