Two Hospitalized in Orchard Street House Fire

Firefighters from Syosset and 10 other firehouses responded to the scene around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Multiple fire departments battled a two and half story house fire on Orchard Street in Syosset Tuesday around 12:15 p.m. and two people - a firefighter battling the blaze and a resident of the house - were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. 

Firefighters were met with heavy smoke and fire upon their arrival to the house, which was visible over a fence outside the  and across the street from the  on Cold Spring Road. 

A firefighter was sent to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and a resident inside the house was also transported some time later after complaining of difficulty breathing.

The CVS had smoke conditions inside the store, as curious employees and customers exiting the store made their way to the fence to catch a better view. 

The Syosset Fire Department received help from Glen Wood, Bayville, Oyster Bay, Cold Spring Harbor, Locust Valley, Jericho, Hicksville, Plainview, Bethpage and Westbury.The departments were all called to assist in the fire operation and to cover the Syosset Fire District for any additional emergencies.

The cause of the fire and the conditions of both injured parties is currently unknown.
