Board Still Deciding on Faughnan Replacement

In their first meeting since Councilwoman Beth Faughnan resigned, the Town of Oyster Bay board did not announce any plans for replacing her.

Faughnan, 44, of Locust Valley, reportedly stepped down March 25 after seven years on the board to take a position at NuHealth System as deputy executive director.

No deadline exists for replacing a board member who resigns, according to Town officials. Whenever a member of the board resigns, the remaining members have the option of choosing a replacement. 

However, in certain circumstances, the board can also choose not to fill the position and leave it vacant until the elections.

If a replacement is chosen, he or she would run in the next election where residents would choose to keep them in the position. If the board is unable to find a suitable replacement, the position remains vacant until the election in November.

Venditto remarked at the beginning of Tuesday's meeting that the board would like to invite Faughnan and former Town Clerk Steve Labriola to a May meeting for a more official parting.

Labriola left his position as Town Clerk in February to work as chief deputy to Nassau Comptroller George Maragos.
