Wright, as a former high school guidance counselor and college advisor at C.W. Post, said allowing Long Island schools at all levels continue to thrive is a major concern. Wright also wants to focus on environmental issues, citing the importance of healthy harbors. He is against fracking and is for exploring alternative energy, like wind and solar.

A supporter of other democratic leaders' practices, like Gov. Andrew Cuomo's tax levy cap and President Barack Obama's Affordable Health Care Act, Wright has said he would like to bring the democratic voice to Nassau County.

He said he is also a supporter of the Accelerate Long Island program, which is working to connect entrepreneurs and inventors to propel the island's economy.

Wright currently works at the Nassau County Board of Elections.

Education: Bachelor's degree in history from SUNY Stony Brook, master's degree in college student development from C.W. Post, Long Island University.

Opponent: Sen. Carl Marcellino

District: Fifth State Senate District
