Councilwoman Faughnan Steps Down

Town Councilwoman Elizabeth Faughnanresigned from the Oyster Bay Town Board last week, according to Newsday.

Faughnan, a board member for seven years, began her new job as deputy executive director at NuHealth System on March 25, according to the report.

NuHealth is the corporation responsible for running Nassau University Medical Center.

Shelley Lotenberg, spokeswoman for NuHealth System, told Newsday:

Faughnan is an accomplished attorney who will bring significant private and public sector experience to NuHealth to support either our real estate development program or our labor relations efforts.

Lotenberg told Newsday Faughnan would be unavailable for comment on her new position.

According to the report, Faughnan's new position comes with a $160,000 salary. As a part-time Town board member, Faughnan made $57,500, said the report.

Faughnan, 44, of Locust Valley, was a deputy prosecuting attorney for the village of North Hills for over eight years before being elected to the Town board in 2005. She was elected again in 2009 and would have been up for reelection this year.

Faughnan's resignation comes less than two months after Steve Labriola left his position as Town Clerk. Labriola is now Chief of Staff of Nassau Comptroller Steve Maragos.

The Town board will elect Faughnan's replacement, who will then run as the incumbent for election by residents in November.
