County GOP Nominates Imbroto to Face Jacobs

Plainview resident and lawyer to run for seat now held by Democrat Judy Jacobs.

Plainview's Louis Imbroto, a lawyer and former candidate for the state Assembly, has been nominated to run for the the county Legislature seat held by long-time incumbent Judy Jacobs.

Imbroto's nomination came at the county's Republican nominating convention Wednesday night, where County Executive Edward P. Mangano and a slate of candidate were formerly endorsed to run for another term by the GOP.

The 16th District includes Plainview, Woodbury, Syosset Oyster Bay and several surrounding communities.

Thursday morning, Imbroto said he felt "honored" and "humbled by the confidence placed in me this year."

"While running for the Assembly last year, I got a chance to meet and speak to so many member of our community and to gain a deep understanding of their concerns," he told Patch. "So many people are worried about their ability to afford to stay on Long Island.

Imbroto, 29, is an associate attorney with the law firm of Berkman, Henoch, Peterson, Peddy & Fenchel, P.C. in Garden City. He is a 2006 graduate of Fordham University graduated cum laude in 2009 from Brooklyn Law School.

He said high property taxes are driving people, young and old, out of their homes and off Long Island.

"I want to continue the work that Ed Mangano has begun by holding the line on taxes for four straight years and giving our economy a chance to recovery," Imbroto said. "I want to make sure that Long Island remains a place where seniors can remain, young people can start families and that working men and women can call home.

He acknowledged his upcoming race with the presumed nominee, Nassau Legislature Judy Jacobs, D-Woodbury, as "tough," adding "I've never been afraid of a challenge."

Jacobs has represented the Plainview-Woodbury area since the inception of the County Legislature. She has been a highly-visible local figure and a strong voice of county Democrats.

Imbroto ran as a hard campaigner during his unsuccessful bid to oust Assemblyman Charles Lavine, D-Glen Cove, in last year's election.
