LIRR Adds Service for New Year's

Family fare discounts in effect on evening rush-hour trains.

The Long Island Rail Road will provide additional trains to and from Penn Station  through New Year’s Day.

Open alcoholic beverage containers will not be allowed on LIRR trains, platforms and at stations from noon on New Year's Eve through noon on New Year's Day. MTA Police will enforce this restriction.

The extra service being added to the regular schedules include 14 extra trains on Saturday and Sunday for customers heading to and from Manhattan for the holiday sites, entertainment and shopping; eight additional eastbound afternoon trains from Penn Station on New Year’s Eve;  18 additional westbound trains to Penn Station beginning at 4:55 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 14 extra early morning eastbound trains returning from the city on Tuesday.

Family Fare on PM Peak Trains Monday

During peak evening periods on New Year’s Eve, discounted family fare tickets are available. As many four children, ages 5-11, can ride for the  advance purchase fare of 75 cents per child each way when accompanied by a fare-paying adult or guardian. Children under 5 ride free on the LIRR. Regular fares remain in effect during morning peak hours.

Monday evening eastbound
Eight extra trains are being added to the schedule. They include:

Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch

  • 1:31 p.m. from Penn Station will make an added stop at Jamaica.
  • 2:08 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then all stops to Huntington.
  • 2:29 Pm from Penn Station, stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Huntington.
  • 3:24 PM from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury, Hicksville
