Next Jackson Avenue Vote Is Aug. 26

Groundbreaking still looks to take place in November.

An Aug. 26 vote by the Nassau County Legislature will be the next step in finally getting the Jackson Avenue improvement project off the ground, according to a press release from Legis. Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury).

On July 27 an inter-municipal agreement (IMA) was passed unanimously by the Town of Oyster Bay. That agreement allows the county and Town to split the cost of the project, with the Town taking over responsibilities of that portion of the road after its completion.

Advocates had hoped that the IMA would be approved by the Legislature at its Monday meeting. But Jacobs said passing the IMA on the 26th will allow the county and Town to meet the November start date that's been floated. She added that in a procedural move Presiding Officer Peter Schmitt (R-Massapequa) kept the Rules Committee of the Legislature in recess in order to be able to pass the IMA through on the 26th. It will then be passed through the full Legislature on the same date.

"This is the plan and we have every reason to believe we will be on this timeline," said Jacobs.
