No. 48: Listen to Sultry Sounds in the Winter

TOBAY offers a 'Distinguished Artists' concert in Syosset.

For this month's 100 Things to do in Syosset we are heading to the auditorium at the Syosset Library on Saturday, January 26, 2013 for a free concert at 8pm sponsored by the Cultural and Performing Arts division of the Town of Oyster Bay's Department of Community & Youth Services.

Take your seat in the cozy theater to listen to vocalist and actress, Annie Kozuch and pianist, Frank Ponzio as they take us on a musical journey exploring 1940's and 1950's jazz standards lifted from the Great American Songbook (think Gershwin, Porter, Ellington, and Berlin) included in the mix will be Mexican Boleros and Bossa Nova from Brazil, sung in Spanish and Portuguese, respectively.

So how does Central and Latin American songs come to mix with North American standards?  That's because Kozuch, born in Mexico, and Ponzio both have roots stemming from these areas. Their musical partnership had earned them a sixth place ranking in 2010 on the CMJ jazz charts for their CD, Here With You.

Their newest release, available in March, called Mostly Jobim will be availble on CDBaby and I-tunes. This CD will pay homage to Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim the famous creator of Bossa Nova known by his worldwide hit in the 1960's, The Girl From Ipanema.

So come experience their five years worth of collaboration with this Distinguished Artist concert. And make sure to go to the TOBAY website and add all the other concerts from this series to your datebook which is listed in the town calendar from January though May.
