No. 66: Come on Down to the Annual Street Fair

It's time for Syosset's annual block party.

In our weekly countdown we are heading downtown this weekend for the 8th annual Syosset Street Fair and Carnival, brought to you by the

Starting with only the carnival part on Saturday at the LIRR train station, the street fair will be joining in on Sunday from 10am until 5pm and with the forecast planning to be just right, the whole neighborhood will be out walking the roads and avenues.

This year they are not closing off the street immediately after the train tracks, so there will be a decent traffic flow. Therefore, the best way to the festival will be to cross over the tracks and make an immediate right by and park by the train station or go left on Underhill Boulevard and park along the side of the street that runs parallel to the tracks. The south parking lot by the train station is also a good option if you are okay with crossing the tracks by foot.

The street fair on Sunday will be set up like a "Y" configuration. Blocking off Jackson Ave towards Split Rock Road, ending at the corner by Village Realty and forking off by Cold Spring Road until Village Pharmacy. Whitney Avenue by Astoria Federal Bank will also have their share of vendors.

From 11:30am until 3:30pm come to the TOBAY Showmobile, a stage on wheels, and hear Alive-N-Kickin perform their famous song, Tighter and Tighter amongst other hits. Next up will be with solos and duets of tap, jazz, lyrical, and pointe followed by some stunts, tumbles, and dance by Island Xtreme Cheerleading of Plainview.

Within the carnival there will be amusements and games of chance for all ages. In the street area you will find vendors selling food, crafts, clothing, jewelry, and more. Decorate your own pumpkin at the Chamber's booth, too. Make sure to find the Patch booth - come by to say hi to some of the staffers.

This year's festival is sponsored by Optimum online, , , NRAD Medical Associates, Dantona Industries, and North Shore LIJ.

Don't forget to visit the stores along the way to meet our local merchants.
