[POLL]: TOBAY's Role in Syosset's Downtown Revival

What is the town's responsibility for improving Syosset's downtown area?

At Tuesday's , Supervisor John Venditto called a testament to the "good things that can happen when residents know their role and the Town knows their role."

Laura Schultz, of the RESIDENTS for a More Beautiful Syosset, thanked the town for their

"The road is beautiful, we're making headway with the gardening…it looks and feels better," she said. The garden was severely damaged during the Jackson Avenue Improvement Project.

Schultz and Venditto agreed the next logical step in Syosset is revitalizing the businesses of the downtown area.

How can the Town of Oyster Bay help with the revival of Syosset's downtown area? What are some of the laws, resolutions, or incentives the town should work on in the  near future? Or is it up to the businesses to get themselves back to normal? Vote in the poll below and tell us your ideas in the comments.

TOBAY should work with the landlord's who own the business properties in downtown Syosset and Robbins Lane and Underhill to improve visual images, parking, cleanliness and tenant mix.

The Bronx Pizza, Syosset Seafood, and Lifetime storefronts look great on Robbins lane look great..the rest of that road--save the school-- looks like an industrial wasteland. Quite odd when you consider how quaint the adjoining Birchwood neighborhood is. I don't want the mall...but some beautification--corporate or otherwise would be great.

Beautification is something we've heard a lot of buzz about so what sorts of improvements would everyone like to see? We've heard of unifying the styles of the storefronts: http://syosset.patch.com/articles/syosset-biz-q-a-jonas-chiropractic

Modern signage, repairing curbs and sidewalks, removing weeds from cracks in walkways and foundations, rusty downspouts and utility pipes. NOT big expenses that go a long way!!!
Also, the street sweeping seems minimal: with the money saved from no salt used in the last winter, could we get a couple of more street sweepings?

I agree...It's sad that Huntington has tons of places to shop & eat...same with Great Neck, Roslyn. Why not Syosset town ?

There needs to be uniformity of all storefronts for Syosset to be considered a beautiful town.... All should resemble something similar to the small strip starting with Mims restaurant... The lighting is nostalgic there as well... Its all a matter of money and zoning but how can a town with so much wealth continue to look so dumpy????

I agree. There needs to be uniform storefronts, new sidewalks, pretty lighting and most of all, stores one wants to shop in!

"TOBAY needs to take advantage of the improving economy and make a major push toward bettering local business." Are you kidding? What improving economy. LOL

It is a great idea to beautify Syosset.I think that every shop should have the same awning. Right now it looks like a run down town. Please include town north of tracks in beautification.

For instance, critical thinking is not about finding fault with people who make noise by using leafRead More blowers, but about an in-depth thinking of goals and values we will achieve by limiting their use. People could earn more quality life and peace of mind by having quiet time in the early morning and the late evening. The value of mental peace is regarded crucial in our life. Critical thinking gives us a process of thinking to get into the depth of the problem. It begins with an analysis of the situation (structure, background, or setting), in which the information of when, where, and who is identified. The information may help set up seasonal differences in restricting hours of leaf blower operation. Further thinking will lead critical thinkers to note the implication of the new ordinance to the business of licensed landscapers. Also, critical thinkers may think about the development of a soundproof leaf blowing machine. Critical thinking helps us to increase and share our common values, rather than tries to find faults with people who make problems.
