Question of the Day: Click it or Ticket

Do enough drivers wear their seat belts? Do you wear yours?

Monday marked the beginning of Buckle Up New York, a program that runs from May 23 to June 5. That means police will be out in full force, monitoring seatbelt usage at this time.

Wearing your seatbelt is one of the most important things you can do for your safety. Police say that a person is twice as likely to be killed in a traffic accident if not properly restrained.

Front-seat passengers without their seatbelts on may face fines of up to $50 and up. Drivers failing to have children properly secured may be fined up to $100 and can receive up to three points on their driver’s license.

Why even risk it?

Our question for Wednesday is: Are drivers mindful of wearing seatbelts, or is this kind of initiative required to prompt people to buckle up?
