Update: Clothes, Rations Provided for Sandy Victims

Town to provide food and water, hold clothing drive.

Residents hit hardest by Sandy will be able to get bottled water, food rations, and clothing with the help of Town of Oyster Bay.

Beginning Friday, TOBAY residents can head to several locations throughout the area and pick up bottled water and military grade MREs (meals, ready to eat) designed for use in emergency situations.

Rations and bottled water will be available 10-2 p.m. at Stehli Beach, Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, and Marjorie R. Post Community Park. Town officials said anyone can take advantage of the service and that proof of residency was not necessary.

On Saturday and Sunday from 12-5 p.m., the Town will also hold a drive where residents can pick up and drop off clothing. Those donating are encouraged to bring adult and children’s clothing, shoes, blankets, coats and children’s toys. The drive will be held at the Oyster Bay Community Center on Church Street in Oyster Bay, Woodbury Community Park, and Marjorie R. Post Community Park.

“I’m hopeful that providing residents in their time of need will go a long way toward making the current situation we all find ourselves in a little more tolerable, as clean-up and restoration efforts progress,” Supervisor John Venditto said.
