Residents: Put Out Christmas Trees on Recycling Days

Oyster Bay crews will take discarded trees on regular recycling schedule.

Syosset residents in the town's sanitation collection districts should put out their Christmas trees to the curb on their regular S.O.R.T. collection day.

“Residents should put out their living Christmas trees as part of their regular yard waste collection,” said Councilman Joseph Muscarella. “Sanitation crews will pick up the trees as part of the Town’s yard waste program.”

Under the town's program, yard waste is taken to compost facilities where it is cheaper to dispose of them than at an out-of-state landfill. Some of the compost is made available, free-of-charge, to residents for use on their home gardening and landscaping projects.
