Sandy Crashes GOP Election Party

Nassau Republicans cancel traditional gathering in Westbury.

Nassau County is still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy and politicians are no exception.

The Nassau County Republican Committee had to cancel their Election Night bash near their Westbury headquarters for lack of electricity.

GOP officials confirmed Tuesday that the traditional party, held at Mirelle's Restaurant and Catering in Westbury next door to their headquarters, had been cancelled. Power had reportedly just been restored Monday but uncertainty of conditions made them call off the party.

Nassau Republicans who would be toasting either the successful campaigns or valiant efforts of their comrades are reportedly heading out on their own for a quiet election night. Representatives of , who will find out Tuesday if his two-decade term in office was extended another two years, will likely remain in his Oyster Bay neighborhood for the night.

Stephen Labate, who is challenging for his seat in Congress, confirmed that the status of the party had been up in the air Tuesday. Though Republicans had been scrambling to find a place to hold the big bash, GOP headquarters confirmed the party was completely cancelled with no plans for a relocation.

Nassau County Democrats confirmed that they would be able to hold their party at The Carltun in East Meadow this year.
