Suffolk Police Warn About Text Message Scam

If you receive a text message saying you won a $1,000 gift card to Best Buy, delete, delete, delete. 

That's the message from the Suffolk County Police Department as its Identity Theft Unit is warning residents of a cell phone text message phishing scam that is intended to trick the receiver into divulging personal financial information.

Long Beach Resident Accused in $415 Million Scam

A Long Beach resident was among 14 sales agents charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission for allegedly misleding investors and illegally selling securities for a Long Island-based investment firm at the center of a $415 million Ponzi scheme.

Smithtown Gets $1 Million in Recovery Funds for Irene

Following last summer's storm which left trees downed and power out across Smithtown, the Federal Emergency Management Agency approved a reimbursement for $1 million to Smithtown. and left a trail of wreckage in her path - over 1,800 tons of debris in Smithtown alone - causing an estimated recovery cost of up to $1.6 billion across the state.

Lindenhurst to Rebuild Main Firehouse

Lindenhurst residents learned earlier this week that the deteriorating main firehouse of the Lindenhurst Fire Department will, in fact, need to be torn down and rebuilt at an approximate cost of $6 million.


Community Gathers to Say Goodbye to W. Islip School
