Syosset Intersection Gets 'Long-Awaited' Traffic Light

A new light is coming at Syosset-Woodbury Road and Cold Spring Road.

A traffic light at the intersection of Cold Spring Road and Syosset/Woodbury Road has been installed and will be up and running within days.

Nassau County Legislator(D-Woodbury) said she originally started asking for this light about 10 years ago. The Department of Public Works decided, instead, to install a blinking light at the intersection.

Jacobs explained that although the blinking light at least gave some warning of the danger, it never served the true purpose of stopping traffic in one direction to allow traffic to continue in another.

“I cannot begin to describe what a great feeling it is to see this become a reality," Jacobs said. "As a long time resident of the area, I know, full well, the dangers and tension we all face when attempting to navigate this intersection."

Other projects Jacobs has brought to Syosset include the Woodbury Road/Syosset Woodbury Road intersection; the light at Tiebrook on Jackson Avenue; the turn signals at South Woods Road and Syosset/Woodbury Road; and, of course, the ongoing , north of the tracks.

“People tell me I am the traffic safety Legislator," Jacobs said. "I wear that badge proudly. If one life is saved, if one accident is avoided, if we can all breathe easier when travelling in our area, I feel I am doing my job."
