Syosset Reminders for Veterans Day

Closures, events and ways to honor and share experiences.

Friday is Veterans Day, so we broke down everything you need to know, remember, visit, and share on this day of remembrance.

Veterans Day facts:

  • Originally called Armistice Day, Veterans Day is held every Nov. 11 to mark the end of World War I.
  • Nov. 11 is also the birthday of famed World War II general, George S. Patton Jr., as well as the anniversary of the first performance of the song, "God Bless America."

  • There is no U.S. Postal Service delivery and no Town of Oyster Bay garbage pickup or S.O.R.T. recycling collection.
  •  The Long Island Rail Road will operate on a normal schedule.

Visit:

  • Stop by the  or . Shake a veteran's hand, thank them for their sacrifices, and ask them for their stories.
  • Pay your respects at the recently moved World War II memorial in front of the Woodbury Fire House. Some Woodbury and Syosset firemen fought in World War II, so if you see them, say hello and thank them! 
  • Drive down to Farmingdale and visit , or travel over to Massapequa watch a .
