If you're thinking about adding a dog or cat to your family, September is your month.

Adoption Fees for Cats and Dogs Waived For September

The , located in Syosset, recently announced that all adoptions during the month of September will be free of charge.

“I invite anyone interested in adopting a pet to visit the Town’s Animal Shelter and see the wide selection of puppies and kittens, as well as older dogs and cats, even some purebreds, available for adoption," said Town Councilwoman, Beth Faughnan. "Trained shelter personnel will work with you to make sure the animal you select is appropriate for your family’s lifestyle.”

The usual adoption fee for dogs is $65, while cats is $59. Those adopting dogs will be required to pay a license fee of $10.00 for a spayed/neutered dog or $15.00 for an unspayed/unneutered dog. Dogs will receive both a rabies and a 5-in-1 shot, while cats will receive a rabies and 4-in-1 shot at no charge. Both dogs and cats will receive free microchipping.

Massapequa Water District Meeting Announced

Proposed improvements to the Massapequa Water District will be discussed at the Tuesday, Sept. 6, meeting of the Oyster Bay Town Board, according to Town Councilman Joe Muscarella.  

“The Commissioners of the Massapequa Water District are requesting the Town Board to consider various water system improvements including well rehabilitation, volatile organic compound treatment facilities, storage tank improvements or replacement, hydrant replacement, water main replacement, and electrical, pump, lighting, alarm and safety improvements,” said Muscarella stated.

The estimated total cost of the improvements is $11,913,700, according to Muscarella. The meeting will be held in the hearing room of Town Hall East, 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Massapequa Soccer Festival is Coming Up

The Town of Oyster Bay will host a Soccer Festival on Saturday, Aug. 20 at John J. Burns Town Park in Massapequa.

Town Supervisor John Venditto said the event will feature NCAA men and women’s soccer teams from Hofstra, Binghamton, and Long Island University’s CW Post Campus.

The NCAA Men’s Soccer game will begin at 3:30 p.m. with Hofstra University versus Binghamton University. The NCAA Women’s Soccer game will begin at 7:30 p.m. with Hofstra versus C.W. Post.

“The festival, featuring NCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer will showcase some of the area’s best soccer talent and will make for an entertaining day for the community to watch and enjoy,” Venditto said.

There will also be a free Youth Clinic at 5:30 p.m., where kids can practice soccer techniques and enjoy food, gift bags, and iPad drawings.

The Supervisor noted that admission is free for Town residents, but all attendees are encouraged to bring cans of food, which will be donated to Island Harvest to benefit the fight against hunger.
