Town Announces Annual 9/11 Memorial at Tobay Beach

The Town of Oyster Bay has announced the town's annual Sept. 11 Memorial Ceremony will take place on Monday, Sept. 9, a candlelight vigil and service at Tobay Beach. 

“The Town’s Sept. 11 memorial is situated on the bayside of Tobay Beach, where there is a direct line of sight to where the Twin Towers once stood,” said Supervisor John Venditto. “It provides a serene and peaceful surrounding, making it a fitting backdrop for a place of remembrance.”

The Town’s memorial monument is inscribed with the names of Town of Oyster Bay residents lost on Sept. 11, 2001 and features a steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center.

“What makes our memorial so meaningful is that it’s personal,” Venditto said.

The event on Sept. 9th includes a candlelight vigil, vocal performances, bagpipe music and religious readings. In addition, the names of those lost, who are inscribed on the wall, will be read.

“I hope that all residents will join us on Monday, Sept. 9 to mark the 12th anniversary and honor the memory of our beloved friends and neighbors who perished on Sept. 11, 2001,” Venditto said. “Being with our family, friends and neighbors helps us pay tribute to our loved ones and share in the collective memory of those we have lost.”
