Town Hockey Challenge Set For Saturday

Farmingdale State to skate against Albany at Bethpage Rink.

Residents can see some exciting hockey action involving a local team while area youths can work on their stick, skating and puck skills at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage Saturday.

The town will present its annual College Hockey Challenge featuring a Men's Ice Hockey Match between Farmingdale State College and  the University of Albany at 7:30 p.m.

Both are club teams in the Empire Collegiate Hockey Conference.

The Farmingdale Rams are 8-0 this season, while the Albany Great Danes are 2-5, according to the Farmingdale State Athletic website .

The Rams are led by Matthew Johnson who has a four goals and an assist this season.

In addition to the game, there will  be pre-game on ice youth clinics for Town of Oyster Bay Youth Hockey Program players, starting at 5 p.m. 

"These unique clinics will help participating youngsters hone their ice hockey skills, gaining valuable tips and insights from some of the areas most accomplished players,” said Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto who will award the town's Supervisor's Cup to the winning school.

Kids will also be able to meet players and get autographs.

The Farmingdale State Rams mascot will also be on hand and kids can pick up a a team photo from him. 

Admission is free but but residents are encouraged to donate two canned goods, which will be collected at the event by Island Harvest.
