Video: Syosset Speaks About Debt Ceiling

Local residents discuss who's to blame for the debt ceiling crisis.

People in the Syosset-Woodbury area have been watching as the drama plays out in Washington over raising the U.S. debt ceiling.

On Sunday night, President Barack Obama announced that a bipartisan deal had been reached, as the standoff inched closer to a Tuesday deadline for a possible default. The new debt deal still needs to be voted on, which is expected to be done Monday.

Before the President’s announcement Sunday, Syosset Patch asked local residents who they thought was to blame for the situation.

One man said the Democrats haven’t proposed any plans, and just keep saying “no, no, no” to Republican suggestions. Another said Democrats and the President have been compromising, but Republicans have been saying no.

But most others interviewed said they believe both sides are to blame.

While the deal reached on Sunday night means the U.S. is unlikely to default, credit ratings agencies are still considering stripping the AAA rating.
