Jackson Avenue Construction – The First Week

Jackson Avenue Improvement Project completes its first week of construction.

The stalwart residents of Syosset survived the first week of the long awaited Jackson Avenue Improvement Project.

The construction project started at 8:00AM last Monday with the construction crews marking off the shifting of the north and south bound lanes with signs and a myriad of orange plastic cones. Workers were strategically placed to keep the traffic moving, to slow it down when needed, or in some instances, to stop the traffic so that a piece of heavy construction equipment could be moved.

Although a rainy and damp week, the work crews worked on the installation of the catch basins and piping needed to improve the drainage along Jackson Avenue. Where needed, they put down a temporary layer of blacktop along the shoulder to protect the installed piping and basins. The work was done in the areas of Beatrice, Albert and Dawes Avenues.

Throughout the week, I traveled the avenue either by foot or car to experience the movement of the traffic. It seemed to flow fairly well, with stoppage at a minimum.

Don’t forget, Underhill Boulevard can be used as the alternative to traveling Jackson Avenue.
