Jackson Avenue Improvement Project – Week 13

The Jackson Avenue Improvement Project will enter week 14th this week.

The number 13 has always carried with it a special meaning for those who are superstitious. But that did not seem to daunt the construction crews from their tasks this week!

Starting at the stores on the east side of Jackson Avenue adjacent to 1-800-Flowers, forms were laid by the work crews and cement poured for the new curbs that stretched to Faith Lutheran Church (Hillside Avenue North). This stretch of the avenue has never had curbs.

Along this same stretch, old sidewalks were ripped up and forms were laid for the pouring of cement for the new ones.

Catch basins were installed in the parking lot of Wells Fargo Bank, and on the east side of Jackson Avenue across the street from the corners of Devine Avenue and Walters Avenue. Trees were also taken down across the street from the Citgo Station.

On the west side of Jackson Avenue, cement was poured for new curbs by the Bella Notte Restaurant. Light stanchions were repositioned for the Ira Avenue traffic light.

After the torrential rains this weekend, let’s hope that Jackson Avenue is still there when the crews return on Monday.
