Jackson Avenue Improvement Project -- Week 18

The road crews began their 18th week of work on the Jackson Avenue Improvement Project.

This week was a very busy week for the road crews as they began the 18th week of this construction project.

The crews began removing the top layer of the old pavement of the northbound lane from Jericho Turnpike to St. Edward's Church at Teibrook Avenue.Man holes were installed from Pine Road to Teibrook Avenue, and a crew was working on the sidewalk area boarding the backyards of the houses across from the Citgo Station (Devine Avenue). It looks as though a retaining wall is being installed to hold back the top soil in this area, as the new sidewalk will be lower that the adjacent backyards.

Crews were also working on the sidewalk area by the Rite Aid shopping center, preparing for the installation of the forms for the cement for the new sidewalks. The area was cleared of debris, and the dirt was leveled.

The traffic was heavier, moved more slowly and many times stopped due to the removal of the old pavement by Pine Road. The positioning of the construction equipment caused these delays.

The longest traffic tie-up happened at 9:00 AM one morning as a school bus was exiting from Pine Road and wanted to proceed north on Jackson Avenue. Workman had to stop the traffic in both directions as the school bus was having trouble making the turn  north due to the southbound traffic and the construction equipment. The school bus needed more room to make the left hand turn.

The volume of traffic seems to have increased due to the start of the new school year.
