Jackson Avenue Improvement Project — Week 24

Jackson Avenue Improvement Project is possibly nearing completion.

The work this week along Jackson Avenue centered on the street lighting and traffic signals.

Crews wired the new decorative street lighting in front of the stores adjacent to the and the traffic lights on the corners of Dawes Avenue, The Mall, Ira Road and Convent Avenue. The traffic light control boxes were installed at each of these locations.

By the end of the week, the new traffic lights at Dawes Avenue and The Mall were blinking, letting motorists know that soon they will be operational.

New street lights along the sidewalk by were installed by the on Friday afternoon.

Although the majority of work this week was electrical in nature, crews also laid the final layer of asphalt on the corners of Lucille Drive where they intersect with Jackson Avenue. The ruts on the south side of the tracks were filled in on Friday afternoon. Hopefully, that will make crossing at the LIRR tracks somewhat smoother.
