Jackson Avenue Improvement Project — Week 26

The renovation work for Jackson Avenue has come to a halt. When will this project be completed?

There was hardly any activity by the construction crews on the Jackson Avenue Improvement Project this week.

Cement for the sidewalk and the new curb in front of on the corner of Ira Road was poured on Monday.

On Thursday morning, a utility crew was working on the electricity for the new decorative street lighting in front of the businesses named above.

What the coming week will bring is anyone's guess. Let's hope that they begin laying the final layer of asphalt from Pine Road to the LIRR, followed by the completion of the striping for the traffic lanes for the same stretch of avenue.

We will just have to wait and see.

Interesting what they did with that curb there. That used to be a driveway for the parking lot for the back of the lawyers offices, which they apparently closed off and constructed a curb, yet they continued with the asphalt. They should have just made it a concrete sidewalk, otherwise cars will be driving off the curb.

If they are not going to finish paving the road in the near future, at least paint some temporary lines on where the lanes are supposed to be and what they are supposed to be for. Cars are sitting and waiting to go straight in the right turn lane by Ira Road constantly blocking traffic. It would be nice to know if this is going to remain a left turn lane or if there are plans to change it. Also, cars are trying to form two lanes when there used to be one causing people to get cut off. I'd like to see these issues addressed, traffic is not improving.

Worry not, they will most definitely finish on Thanksgiving, then paint the stripes on Christmas.

I spoke to a supervisor this morning (Wednesday) about the final paving of Jackson Avenue from Pine Road to the LIRR. He said that today is prep work for the final paving, depending on weather, either Thursday and/or Friday. It should take only one day. The striping of the lanes will be next week, probably in the late evening.

Will there be an official announcement to the end of the Jackson Avenue Project?
