Jackson Avenue Improvement Project – Week Nine

Jackson Avenue construction begins its third month.

This week the construction crews continued their work with the removal of the old pavement on the westside of Jackson Avenue from Albert Avenue to Teibrook Avenue. A dirt base was then installed, which was followed by the laying of the first coat of asphalt.

At the same time, manhole covers for the sewers were installed in this area of the roadway.

On Thursday, I spent some time watching the crew work as the dirt was dumped, spread out and then evened out with the use of a steamroller. Traffic was stopped for about three minutes, in each direction, for each time the dump trucks unloaded their load of dirt for the base coast.

At that time, I spoke to a road inspector about the progress of this project. During our conversation, he mentioned that two more coats of asphalt will be laid over the initial coat that is now there.

The inspector also mentioned that when the crews reached Teibrook Avenue, they would then begin their cement work (sidewalks and curbs) on the eastside of Jackson Avenue starting at Jericho Turnpike. If this plan does not change, work on the eastside of the avenue may start in the upcoming week.
