Just when we were , our tranquility has been disturbed.
This week, a construction crew from Lizza Construction returned to install crosswalks at the intersections of Ira Road, Convent Road and Railroad Avenue with Jackson Avenue. Parts of the new road surface were removed, cement poured and then dyed to resemble the color of brick.
The flow of traffic has been interrupted by this construction. At times, the line of traffic extended from the LIRR south to Jericho Turnpike.
A supervisor told me that this work may take two weeks to complete, and traffic will continue to be interrupted over this period. Community members may want to use alternative routes for the next few days.
Happy motoring!
Is anyone else still holding their breath for that first big accident at the intersection of Jackson and Ira, now that the Right Turn Only lane has been removed? I still think we need to explore putting it back.
@K DeMeo, I agree the lights are off. Regarding the "look" of the town, everything north of the tracks is County so that is a different fight. As to the stores I think the merchants are barely just keeping the doors open, a face-lift isn't in the budget.
I think the county needs to do something. The town really looks terrible. The owner of the buildings on the strip, needs to clean it up. The merchants try and have to give them some credit. Problem here is that, no foot traffic. No stores people want to shop in, other than for food. Maybe the Residents should do something? Pretty pots with flowers? Just a thought.
