Jackson Avenue: The Saga Continues

Traffic is interrupted along jackson Avenue due to a new construction project.

Just when we were , our tranquility has been disturbed.

This week, a construction crew from Lizza Construction returned to install crosswalks at the intersections of Ira Road, Convent Road and Railroad Avenue with Jackson Avenue. Parts of the new road surface were removed, cement poured and then dyed to resemble the color of brick.

The flow of traffic has been interrupted by this construction. At times, the line of traffic extended from the LIRR south to Jericho Turnpike.

A supervisor told me that this work may take two weeks to complete, and traffic will continue to be interrupted over this period. Community members may want to use alternative routes for the next few days.

Happy motoring!

Sounds like it's going to look good. TOBAY has done a great job with this.
Is anyone else still holding their breath for that first big accident at the intersection of Jackson and Ira, now that the Right Turn Only lane has been removed? I still think we need to explore putting it back.

I actually like that they have finally made the turning lane go straight as well. With the amount of traffic going North, it is just not feasible to have only one lane traveling North. Rush hour was a nightmare. They could, however, put a "no turn on red" coming off of Ira Rd to stop the cars from turning in front of on going traffic. The taxis are horrible, trying to beat the oncoming traffic. That might stop the inevitable accidents.

What they should do is leave it how it was, and encourage people to leave ON TIME!! typical catering to the me first attitude of most around here..

The traffic is worse in general, not only due to construction. The lights are off, they let only 2 cars go before its red again. The traffic at 5:30 is all the way down Berry Hill Road past the funeral home. The traffic down Cold Spring Road, last week, was down to the park by the flower section. Here is my question, now that they have "fixed" the roads leading into the main town, when are they planning on fixing the main town up? We have no pretty lamp post, the streets are full of debris, the sidewalks are falling apart, the stores are falling down.. anyone know if they are even planning on doing anything?

I guess road construction planners have never heard the old saying "measure twice, cut once". It is ridiculous that they are digging up the new road right after it was done.

@DDB, I asked that question of the Town and was told that the money was not in the budget while the road project was going on, The funds were only just "found" to do this upgrade.
@K DeMeo, I agree the lights are off. Regarding the "look" of the town, everything north of the tracks is County so that is a different fight. As to the stores I think the merchants are barely just keeping the doors open, a face-lift isn't in the budget.

I hope the new construction doesn't create a whole new mess of uneven roads and potholes, like before. It was such a pleasure to drive that road, even if it only last for 2 mintues. I do think it is unecessary however, for brick road walk ways.
I think the county needs to do something. The town really looks terrible. The owner of the buildings on the strip, needs to clean it up. The merchants try and have to give them some credit. Problem here is that, no foot traffic. No stores people want to shop in, other than for food. Maybe the Residents should do something? Pretty pots with flowers? Just a thought.

RESIDENTS will continue to advocate for major safety improvements to the downtown area north of the railroad tracks with the Town Board. We feel that safety issues should be addressed first before any beautification efforts take place. Please contact Supervisor John Venditto and Councilman Chris Coschignano to voice your concerns about the downtown area.

Painted Lines would have been so much less disruptive. Fresh asphalt and brick crosswalks are not going to fix the town's traffic problem. The Real Estate Agents idea of a quaint village complete with railroad crossing and station is the problem.

anything quaint about this town is long gone!

For instance, critical thinking is not about finding fault with people who make noise by using leafRead More blowers, but about an in-depth thinking of goals and values we will achieve by limiting their use. People could earn more quality life and peace of mind by having quiet time in the early morning and the late evening. The value of mental peace is regarded crucial in our life. Critical thinking gives us a process of thinking to get into the depth of the problem. It begins with an analysis of the situation (structure, background, or setting), in which the information of when, where, and who is identified. The information may help set up seasonal differences in restricting hours of leaf blower operation. Further thinking will lead critical thinkers to note the implication of the new ordinance to the business of licensed landscapers. Also, critical thinkers may think about the development of a soundproof leaf blowing machine. Critical thinking helps us to increase and share our common values, rather than tries to find faults with people who make problems.
