Syosset Community Gardens

Community Gardens maintained by the RESIDENTS for a more beautiful Syosset.

The RESIDENTS for a more beautiful Syosset maintains three community gardens: the Jackson Avenue Community Garden; the Memorial Park Garden; and the Syosset Post Office Garden.

Due to the severe drought of this past summer and the very cold and snowy winter, the gardens lost many shrubs, bushes and trees. In trying to make Syosset a little more beautiful, RESIDENTS replaced these shrubs and bushes in the Memorial Park Garden and at the Syosset Post Office. RC Landscape and Design of Commack planted the new bushes in both of these gardens. This was made possible through the generous donations of community residents and business people.

On Saturday, May 14th, RESIDENTS sponsored a flower planting program to prepare the Memorial Park Garden for the Memorial Day ceremonies, which take place there at the conclusion of the community’s annual parade. RESIDENTS’ officers and directors, members and their children, and Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs and her grand daughter spent the morning planting impatiens, begonias, and New Guinea impatiens. These flats of flowers were generously donated by DeBenedittis Nursery & Florist of Syosset and by Meyer’s Farm of Woodbury.

Upon completion of the Jackson Avenue construction, our Community Garden will require a redesigned “narrow and longer” plan, since the new roadway and sidewalk boundaries will impinge on the present garden.

When the road construction and the Community Garden are updated and completed, they will serve as a beautiful gateway to the Hamlet of Syosset.
