Board of Ed: Syosset Budget Makes the Cap

2012-2013 budget will be exactly at the state mandated cap.

The tax levy for the 2012-2013 school year will fall exactly at the new tax cap, said to the Syosset Board of Education at Monday's meeting. , the district let out a collective sigh of relief at a relatively less daunting budget process.

If the budget had exceeded the state mandated cap of 2.2563 percent, it would have needed a "supermajority" of 60 percent voter approval. Since Syosset stayed within the cap, they need to simply get the majority vote.

"I'm very proud to say we'll be able to provide the same wonderful programs and services next year [with this budget]," said Board President Dr. Marc Hermann among lively applause at the March Board of Education meeting. He later praised teachers, principals, teachers assistants and other staff members who signed off on salary freezes that helped keep the budget at the cap.
