BOE: Assessments Are Not Our Fault

Tax increases are not from the district, which maintained the promise of a 1.86% cut off.

Although October is a quiet month for board matters, Syosset's Board of Education still faces criticism over raised taxes, which is why they reminded everyone at Monday's meeting that they kept their word regarding the set 1.86 percent tax increase.

"The only possibility is that the individual assessment changed…It has nothing to do with the school board or administration," said Frederic Gang, who defended the board's keeping their promise regarding not going over the increase.

"Basically we should be blaming the assessment office, not the district...we taxed exactly what we said," Board President Marc Herman said, backing Gang's statements.

The board ran quickly through the list of resolutions with no interruption, approving all appointments of new teachers, substitutes and leaves of absence, as well as authorizing certain service contracts and donations of picnic tables and an HD notebook.
