Circus Week Comes to J. Irving Baylis

J. Irving Baylis Elementary School finished its annual Circus Week with a closing ceremony on Jan. 17

J. Irving Baylis Elementary School finished its annual Circus Week with a closing ceremony on Jan. 17, during which fifth-graders had a chance to demonstrate the skills they learned throughout their week during their physical education classes to parents and classmates.

Each fifth-grader took on a different circus role for the performance, such as plate spinner, acrobat, clown, stilt walker or juggler, as well as used the devil sticks and diabolos.

The annual event, which is sponsored by the Baylis PTA Arts and Education Committee, brings performers from the National Circus Project to the school for the week, teaching students on all grade levels various circus skills on an age-appropriate level.

The skills are designed for student success, providing them with a self-esteem boost and fun, unique hands-on activities.
