Get Out Weekend Planner: Oct 14-16

Here are some of the fun things going on in the neighborhood this weekend.

1. Highlights of the World's Most Beloved Operas, Operettas & Special Audience Requests

Where/When: theater, Sunday Oct. 16, 2pm

Why Go: Get some culture in before the weekend is over by listening to Anne Tormela, a coloratura (Italian for super awesome opera singer), sing some legendary opera hits. Come prepared with requests!

Pricing: FREE. The library encourages everyone to wait on a non-ticket holder line the day of the performance.

2. Carnival

Where/When: Syosset High School; Friday, 5-11pm; Saturday, noon-11pm; Sunday, 12-5pm.

Why Go: Fall is carnival season, and the high school carnival is perfect for this weekend. No need to travel far -- many can simply walk down the street. It's easy to have fun close to home this weekend.

Pricing: FREE to attend

3. Restaurant Week

Where/When: Across Long Island, but in Syosset, 516 American Kitchen and Bar, CoolFish Wine Bar & Grill, Fulton & Prime Fish and Steak House, and Mim's Syosset.

Why Go: Dine at some of the best restaurants in Nassau County. All are offering a prix-fixe menu of their best dishes.

Pricing: $24.95 per person

Where/When: Walt Whitman Mall, Huntington Station; Saturday, Oct. 15, 11am.

Why Go: You can have fun while caring for children. While there will be face painting, raffles and a petting zoo, there will also be ADHD screenings, child ID finger printing, and seminars. Participants include many foundations including Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition, Special Olympics New York, and Variety Child Learning Center.

Pricing: FREE

Where/When: Nassau County Museum of Art, Arnold & Joan Saltzman Fine Art Building; Sunday, Oct. 16, 1pm.

Why Go: After a guided family tour throughout the museum, the whole family can make their own masterpieces.

Pricing: $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $4 for students and children, free for members; $2 weekend parking fee (also free for members)

6. The Script and Warren Haynes concerts at The Paramount in Huntington

Where/When:

The Script: Friday, Oct. 14, 8pm

Warren Haynes: Saturday, Oct. 15, 8pm

Why Go: The Script are three Dubin gents topping the charts today. Warren Haynes and his jam band take much of their inspiration from Haynes' time as a member of the Allman Brothers. Why go? To rock out, man.
