No. 74: Earn a Degree in ID

Become a proficient interior designer at MiD, if you've got what it takes.

In our weekly countdown we are opening a door to a career in interior design by laying the groundwork for your education at Metropolitan Institute of Design (MiD).

Do you find yourself driven to procure all the home design publications as soon as they hit the stands? When you go into do you skip the clothing and go right to aisles with the home goods? Do your friends often compliment your home style? If you answered yes to all these questions, you may have a calling for a position in a home design field.

This institute offers the perfect path for those who have a creative edge and are looking to to redirect their livelihood. It also offers a great opportunity to be your own boss and potentially have flexible hours. If you have already received a college degree, you can streamline your education with this singular style curriculum.

You will start by taking Practical Aspects of Interior Design (a three-semester diploma program). Within the parameters of this course-work, you will learn about architecture and history of design, floor plans, lighting, space planning, and more.

Once completed, you can opt to build on your education with their Advanced Studies, a two-year professional program with courses in kitchen and bath design, CAD, advanced drafting, building codes, and contract design, to name a few. It is here where you can gain your requirements for the NCIDQ certificate along with serving a five-year apprenticeship.

Some of the local show houses have even selected students by audition and casting call to participate in decorating and designing a room.

This fully accredited school is one of the first of its kind in the country to offer a Universal Feng Shui Practitioner Certificate program.There is also a two-year diploma program in apparel and fashion design.
