Nassau County will provide $48,000 in Capital funds to the Syosset Central School District for the purchase of portable light sets, County Legislator Judy Jacobs, D-Woodbury, recently announced.

The portable light sets will be used at the Syosset Central School District High School, the H.B. Thompson Middle School, and the J. Irving Baylis School for athletic events and other events open to the residents of Nassau County.

Jacobs, a parent of three who attended the Syosset schools said, “I am very pleased that the County has made the commitment to the $48,000.00 to support this project. It will allow the District to have better use of their fields. It is my pleasure to have been able to bring this to fruition.”

Pursuant to Article 9, of the NYS Constitution and Article 5-G of the General Municipal Law, the County may enter into intergovernmental agreements. This inter-municipal agreement is between the County and the District.

Robert Lichtenstein December 11, 2013 at 01:51 pm What about lights on the turf at Syosset Woodbury park where they are beyond needed!!!! How many football practices had to be canceled because there are no lights in place. Every other facility has lights, the fact that our beautiful turf doesn't is a joke. We could host nights games against other towns as well. You can't make this stuff up.

Robert, I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the Town to fix or repair anything. The sad thing is TOBAY is actually better than most Towns and it's a D+ at best.

Agreed! If I held my breath I would have been dead by now! Its just wishful thinking on my part.

Here's a better story you can't make up. The TOB offered to fund in its entirety an AstroTurf field with lights from the money the town had set aside to build fields throughout the town for Syosset SD. Carol Hankin turned them down. Plainview OB said yes to the offer and they got the field.

You really can't make it up. What a joke!
