Question of the Day: Standardized Tests

Do you think standardized tests should be used to evaluate teachers?

When you got your SAT scores back, did the words, "This number doesn't match me" pop into your head? Your SAT scores don't factor in how you had the flu when you took them, or that you couldn't sleep the night before because your dog kept barking. But those numbers were still a big part of your college applications.

Teachers and principals are going through the same thing now. The scores their students get on standardized tests, soon to include the Regents exams, will account for 20 percent of their yearly evaluation. Although the SATs are not used in the APPR model, they are used as an indicator for college.

Do you think standardized testing is a good tool for evaluating student performance? Should teachers be judged on their students' performance on such tests?
