SHS Interact Club Marks 10th Anniversary of 'Blue Jeans for Babies'

Fundraiser proceeds go toward life-saving cardiac surgeries for children in need throughout the world.

Members of the Syosset High School Interact Club, along with staff and administrative members, teachers and Board of Education trustees, gathered on Nov. 26 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of one of the school’s most successful fundraisers – Blue Jeans for Babies – with a plaque dedication.

The fundraiser collects money from students and faculty members to wear blue jeans on a specific day. One hundred percent of the profits are donated to Gift of Life International, an organization that provides life-saving cardiac surgeries for children in need throughout the world.

To date, the Interact Club, which is a division of Rotary International, has raised more than $100,000 for Gift of Life International, saving the lives of more than 25 children. The club has had the opportunity to meet many of the children they’ve assisted over the past 10 years.

Co-presidents Sydni Grossman, Sylvie Durlacher and Ashley Keltz spoke during the
dedication about the scope of the fundraising project, how it has positively affected
countless children, and the hopes for raising more money in years to come. Pictures and information of the children saved by the club’s donations were included on individual plaques.
