South Grove Explores Columbus Day

Young Syosset students recreated maps and learned about exploring in 1492.

South Grove Elementary students did some exploring in honor of Columbus Day.

Memorizing and reciting the poem, "1492," participating in a "brown bag" workshop, and recreating the work of cartographers brought them back into the lives of those sailing on the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. Students also painted landmasses, learned about geography, and created a world map of what early explorers would have drawn.
