South Woods Shines at State Science Olympiads

Syosset students take home six medals.

Syosset students from South Woods Middle School's Science Olympiads took home six medals at the state competition April 4-5, school officials said. 

The students placed 14th in the state, competing against 36 other teams, according to the district's website.

Fifth-place medals were won by Brian Bertrand and Kevin Ho in Sounds of Music, with Daniel Israel and Roshan Mathai taking home third-place medals for water quality, and Bertrand and Varun Jauhar winning sixth-place medals for Disease Detective.
 
South Woods also had three other events in the top 10, including ninth place for Can’t Judge a Powder by Jauhar and Radhika Patel; seventh place for Experimental Design by Julianna Bianco, Lydia Kim and Patel; and seventh place for Rocks and Minerals by Kenneth Chou and Jarrad Li.
