St. Edwards Students Attend Solar Challenge

Seventh graders from St. Edward the Confessor in Syosset visited the Cradle of Aviation to participate in the Junior Solar Sprint Challenge, a contest for solar car speed and design on Monday June 16.

The students spent several days learning about solar panels, reviewing best practices of measurement, and analyzing how different car parts work together. They worked hard not only designing but also constructing the body, wheels, transmission, solar panel supports, and exterior design in their groups.  By using scientific principles along with trial and error, the final versions of their cars were finally ready to race.

Students showed a great amount of teamwork, knowledge, and perseverance.  St. Edward's earned trophies sweeping the design category.
