Overall, Syosset took first place in the 200-meter medley relay, the 200-meter IM, 50-meter freestyle, diving, 100-meter butterfly, 100-meter freestyle, the 200-meter free relay and the 100-meter backstroke events, claiming a decisive victory and taking eight of the 11 events of the meet. Port Washington took first place points in only two events - the 200 and 500 meter freestyle.

Despite a few setbacks, most notably two disqualifications (in the 200-meter IM and the 50-meter freestyle) as well as a failed dive, Syosset mostly dominated this particular meet and maintained a constant lead over the Port Washington team from the first race on.

The final two events of the meet (100-meter breast stroke and 400-meter freestyle relay) were held as "exhibition" races because Syosset had already achieved an insurmountable lead of 94-61.

Syosset coach Schleider said he was satisfied after the victory.

"We had to overcome some adversity, disqualifications," he said. "but overall the team came through. It was a good win."

The win is Syosset's first of the season, as well as the first in their new conference, having moved from conference-I to conference-II this year. The move will allow Syosset to be considerably more competitive than last year, and hopes are high that they will compete for a conference championship.

Overall, the Syosset swimmers looked very strong and stayed competitive throughout the meet. And with a team roster of 50 swimmers, the team definitely shows lots of depth and a wealth of talent that will most certainly propel them to considerable future success in the water.
