Syosset Boys Volleyball Jockeys for Playoff Position

Braves start off the week by sweeping Farmingdale.

The Syosset Braves had just watched a 6-1 lead in game three of Monday afternoon's volleyball match with Farmingdale shrink to 9-6. The frustration was evident on the faces of all on the court. Kneeling down for a breather after Farmingdale scored a second consecutive point, Jake Weinreb shouted words of encouragement to his teammates.

Syosset needed the third game to complete the afternoon sweep and go home a game over .500. Weinreb's message was received loud and clear. Syosset took control of the game as the three-point lead grew to six within minutes.

Then the closer came in. Kyle Lin served six consecutive points, electrifying the crowd and caging the Dalers for good. The third game was the Braves most convincing of the contest, as the Braves won 25-18.

Syosset won the first game 25-15 and the second game 25-18.

The victory, highlighted by all-around excellent play by Alex Leiss, moved the Braves to 7-6. With three more games on the schedule, playoff positioning is at stake. A win on Wednesday against Herricks would give the Braves an outstanding shot at nabbing a five seed in the 12-seed tournament. A loss would open up the possibility for them to fall toward the bottom of the bracket.
