Syosset Girls Volleyball Sweeps Hempstead

Braves host regular season finale Friday.

It was as close as a sweep can be, but it was still a sweep. Syosset's girls volleyball team fought back from deficits in all three sets to top Hempstead on Wednesday night in their final road game of the regular season. The 27-25, 25-16, 25-21 win is the Braves' (11 -4, 11-5) second consecutive victory and keeps them in third place in conference AA-II with one regular season game to play.

Hero: Dana Aronowitz. Aronowitz could not have served the ball better. With the Braves trailing 10-6 in the first set, she served nine consecutive points to give the Braves a 15-10 lead. She finished with four aces and two kills.

Turning Point: Aronowitz's first set serving streak wasn't the only one the Braves had in the victory. Melissa Lam served four consecutive points in the second set to increase the Syosset lead to 24-15. That eliminated any chance of a Hempstead comeback.

Quotable: "My girls are getting better on offense," Syosset coach Kathy Seitz said. "They're hitting better, they're blocking better and they're covering better. I'm just happy we were able to pull it out in three."

Bottom Line: The Braves didn't play their best game of the year, but it is truly the measure of a good team to overcome those kinds of nights and sneak out of the gym with a win.
