It wasn't as easy as previous sweeps, but the Syosset High girls volleyball team managed a 25-23, 25-13, 25-10 home win over Hempstead Monday.
Records: Syosset 5-3 (5-2), Hempstead 0-7 (0-7)
Hero: Melissa Lam. Once again, Lam proved to be one of the Braves' anchors. She served the first 11 points of the third and final game, giving Syosset a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
The Turning Point: The first set was tied at 19-19 when the Braves rattled off three consecutive points. Although Hempstead cut the lead to one, Syosset never allowed them to tie the score again.
Next Game: Wednesday at Freeport, 4:15 p.m.
Bottom Line: The Braves' second consecutive victory puts them in third place in conference AA-II.
