Syosset High School Alumni Educate Seniors About College

Former students give seniors a peek into college life.

Students from the Class of 2013 at Syosset High School made a special visit to their alma mater on Jan. 8 for the school’s annual Alumni Day to give seniors a peek into college life.

Former students representing colleges and universities such as Columbia University, Cornell University, Binghamton University, Harvard College, University of Delaware, Yale University, University of Pennsylvania, New York University, Boston University, University of California at Berkeley and Bucknell University, among others, were in attendance.

Students and alumni were divided into three sections, where seniors listened to alumni talk about the transition process, academic expectations, student and campus life, budgeting time and money, expanding and making new friendships, dealing with homesickness and adjusting to a roommate.

Alumni also offered advice to seniors as they prepare for their first semester of college and discussed what makes their individual schools unique. Seniors were able to ask questions to gain better insight into what college life will be like for them after they graduate in June.
