Syosset High School Students Show Appreciation for Poetry

Approximately 40 students read original work, famous poems or personal favorites aloud in front of several English classes.

In recognition of Poetry Appreciation Day, Syosset High School students came together on Dec. 12 to share their literary appreciation with a poetry reading, sponsored by the school’s KEN Literary and Art Magazine.

Approximately 40 students read original work, famous poems or personal favorites aloud in front of several English classes. The event, which takes place biannually, is an opportunity for students to practice their speech skills, express their creativity and become comfortable speaking in front of a large audience.

More than 50 years old, Syosset’s KEN Literary and Art Magazine is a club that meets weekly where students receive a prompt and write poetry, short stories, narratives, verses or create artwork based on the prompt, later reading their work aloud. Select works are included in a yearly publication, generally following a selected theme.
